PRESS: Federal Security Service may cut connection with countries

MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Security Service will be authorized to turn off connection with countries for up to six months in fight against phone terrorism, RBC Daily reported on Friday.

Several months ago the Security Council ordered the service and the Digital Development Ministry to adjust amendments to the law on connection to fight phone terrorism, or false calls like on mining of buildings, until the end of 2019, several sources told the daily.

An inter-departmental working group on regulation of voice traffic and counter-fraud was created, they said.

The body’s main suggestion is to oblige operators to block a traffic flow to a country if calls with false information on terrorist attacks come from it on request of the Federal Security Service.

“When fulfilling the request of the Federal Security Service, an operator will have to block both voice connection and data transfer in the direction of a country or other connection operator,” a group member told the daily.

“This is because operators’ infrastructure is now multi-servicing: both types of traffic are transferred by the same channels, and it’s rather problematic to block them separately.”
